Senator Tina Rose Muna Barnes
Member-at-Large
Senator Tina Rose Muña Barnes was elected
to her second term in the Guam Legislature in November of 2006 as
one of the seven members of the Democratic minority. She is the
Minority Representative to the Guam Right to Know Commission, and
also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Health,
Human Services and Homeland Security.
She is the daughter of Ana Anderson Atoigue Muña
and the late William Pereira “Bill” Muña, wellknown
trumpeter and band leader. She has eight brothers and sisters, including
an identical twin sister, Donna Muña Quinata. Tina is married
to Jacob Cruz Barnes and they have three children, Tiffany Rose
and fiancé Kenneth L.G. Cruz, Jacob “Coby,” and
Jathan Ryan. Tina and Jacob Barnes have three grandchildren, Kristian
Jacob, Kristiana Linette and Gabriel.
Tina is an athlete, having played softball, basketball
and volleyball in Guam, and for teams representing Guam at the South
Pacific and Oceania Games in ’87, ’89 and ’91.
She was an SPG Commission member in Tahiti in ’95, and Guam
basketball tournament director, ’94 Micronesian Games. She
is an avid runner and keeps in shape by competing regularly in running
events.
Tina is committed to public service and is presently
or has been a member of many organizations including the Sunrise
Rotary, Soroptimists of Guam, Sanctuary, Guma Mami, Salvation Army,
Bill Muña Foundation, Coral Life Foundation, Guam System
for Assistive Technology, Inafa’Maolek, and the State Council
on Vocational Education. Tina often volunteers her time to assist
non-profit organizations and causes, and is a regular at Relay for
Life, having participated as a member of the Legislature as well
as when she was an employee of Atkins Kroll.
Tina served as a member of the majority in the 27th
Guam Legislature, holding the position of Chairperson of the Committee
on Community, Culture, Recreation and Public Broadcasting, and was
Secretary of the Legislature. Her work experience includes nearly
15 years at Guam’s Public Defenders Service Corporation (PDSC),
where she helped thousands of families who were unable to afford
legal assistance. She was an investigator at PDSC in 1995 when she
was appointed as Executive Director of the South Pacific Games Commission,
to prepare for Guam’s hosting of the 1999 Games, featuring
participants from more than 22 Pacific nations and territories.
Tina was then appointed to be Deputy Director of the newly organized
Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities
(DISID), an umbrella organization to handle the needs of members
of the disabled community. Before her election to the 29th Legislature,
Tina was a sales executive for Guam’s largest automobile dealership,
Atkins Kroll.
