Bernadita P. Grajek
Executive Director
Responsible for the overall organizational planning
and direction, as well as directing program administration, organization
fiscal ma nagement, policy development and implementation, and public
relations. Overseeing and monitoring the systems which relate to
the daily operations of all Guma’ Mami programs; Administration;
Personnel; Research; Grant Writing; and organizational certification
and accreditation. Ms. Grajek, Guma’ Mami’s Acting Executive
Director serves as the chief executive officer of Guma’ Mami,
she also works directly with the Board of Directors and its committees
to establish policies and programs.
As a mental health consumer and advocate, Ms. Grajek
has over twelve (12) years experience working with other consumers,
families and service providers. She was the Acting Executive Director
of the Guam Developmental Disabilities Council for one year and
was the Program Coordinator for four and a half years. While at
the GDDC, Ms. Grajek was instrumental in the implementation of various
community capacity building activities to include but is not limited
to the Self Advocacy Training for consumers, Creating Supports Training
for service providers and Employment Power training for employers.
She served as a Program Coordinator for Guma Mami
for five years and was instrumental in the conceptualizing and development
of the Sagan Mami Programs and the opening of the Guma’ Hinemlo
Permanent Supportive Housing Program.
Ms. Grajek worked with the University of Guam’s
Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Education, Research
and Service (CEDDERS)/Guam UAP on the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funded Project Filak: Guam
Wraparound Care for Children with Serious Emotional Disturbance
and their Families as the cultural and linguistic competence coordinator.
Ms. Grajek currently serves on (and has served on)
many advocacy organizations including the Mental Health Planning
Council, the Public Guardian Review Board, the Guam System for Assistive
Technology Goal-AT Loan Review Committee and the Guam Homeless Coalition
among others. In October 2000, Ms. Grajek was selected by Community
Mental Health Services, SAMHSA to participate in the Asian American
Pacific Islander Mental Health Consumer Leadership Summit. In February
2003, Ms. Grajek was awarded a Center for Mental Health Services
scholarship to participate in the World Federation for Mental Health
Congress (WFMHC) in Melbourne, Australia. Ms. Grajek was among eight
individuals selected to represent the United States at the WFMHC.
Ms. Grajek continues to network with various national mental health
organizations including participating in the Center for Mental Health
Services Annual Block Grant Conferences. In addition Ms. Grajek
for the last three years has served and continues to serve as a
Block Grant Reviewer for the Center for Mental Health Services,
SAMHSA.
Ms. Grajek has also provided Technical Assistance
in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands and the Federated
States of Micronesia via workshops funded by the Center for Mental
Health Services and the National Association for Mental Health Planning
and Advisory Councils.
