Message from the Executive Director

Hafa Adai (Greetings) and Welcome to the Guma’ Mami, Inc. website! It is with great pleasure that we offer you information on our services and supports. Guma’ Mami has been supporting the Guam community for over 26 years. Our mission is to facilitate the full inclusion and integration of adults with developmental disabilities and adults with serious mental illnesses into their communities through individual and family supports.

Guma’ Mami takes great pride in playing an active role in the advocacy of systems change and the development of policies that work towards the improvement of the quality of life of individuals with disabilities in our community. Our programs and support services are the results of family, consumer, and many other community stakeholders.

Our Board of Directors, management and staff believe in the value and dignity of every human being. People with developmental disabilities and individuals experiencing mental illnesses are like everyone else in many more ways than they are different. Those differences should be viewed in the same way that ethnic, cultural, social/economic status and other individual or groups differences are viewed, with RESPECT and DIGNITY!

We believe that those whom we support have abilities and competencies that can be enhanced, developed and maximized to the greatest extent possible when provided the necessary supports. Those supports must incorporate self-determination, normalization, full inclusion, integration, and person/family centered planning with a focus on real choices.

We firmly believe that individuals with developmental disabilities and individuals with serious mental illness have rights and responsibilities. When these rights are respected, opportunities are made available and effective services are provided, these individuals can and will become responsible and productive members of their communities.

We at Guma’ Mami take our role as advocates for individuals with disabilities very seriously and we invite you to join us in promoting abilities and making good on the promise for Real Choices.
